Start this summer for small changes that make a big difference…
Summer is beautiful—and as much as I love the sunshine, I’ve been craving a little more calm lately. It can be overstimulating too. Between travel, late nights, and routines that go right out the window, I used to thrive on that energy. But these days, I find myself longing for simplicity.
The excitement is still there—but so is the need for slowness, intention, and care.
I’ve learned that tiny shifts can make a big difference when everything around me feels just a little too fast for my nervous system.
5 Simple Summer Habits That Help Me Stay Grounded
So lately, I’ve been leaning into a few Simple summer habits that help me feel more rooted—especially after saying “yes” to three BBQs, two road trips, and absolutely zero time to myself.
What are 5 examples of self-care?….Here’s what I’ve been doing to stay sane this summer…
1. Cool lemon water first thing in the morning.
It wakes me up gently and hydrates my body after sleep. It’s become my favorite mini ritual. Sometimes I add a pinch of sea salt or a sprig of mint, just to mix it up. It feels like a small way to say, “I’ve got you” to my body before the day gets away from me.
2. No scrolling before 10 a.m.
Starting the day with my energy—not someone else’s feed—has made a huge difference. I used to check my ph
one before I even got out of bed, but I noticed how quickly that scattered me. Now, I try to stretch, journal, or just sit quietly with my coffee. It sets a completely different tone for the day.
Starting the day with intention instead of overwhelm has changed everything for me. Harvard’s guide on mindfulness explains why even small meditative moments can make a big difference.
3. Evening foot soaks with Epsom salts.
This ritual calms both my body and mind. Sometimes it’s just a quick foot soak with warm water, Epsom salts, and lavender oil. Other nights, I go all in with a full tub bath and candles. Either way, it’s 15 minutes of peace that helps me unwind from the noise of the day—no screens, no multitasking, just a simple act of care.
4. Quiet walks in nature.
Even just 10 minutes outside helps me feel like myself again. Whether it’s walking around the block or heading to the nearest trail, nature reminds me to breathe deeper and listen. I often come home feeling clearer, less reactive, and more connected.
5. One of My Favorite Habits to Start This Summer: Saying “No” More Often
Less pressure. More space. That’s what summer’s about. I’ve learned that every “no” creates room for a better “yes.” Whether it’s turning down plans I’m not excited about or setting boundaries around work, choosing less has helped me feel more present in what really matters.
Saying “no” isn’t selfish — it’s one of the most powerful wellness boundaries we can set. This article from Psychology Today dives into why learning to say no is essential to emotional well-being.
I’ve been loving these simple summer habits lately, especially when paired with daily self-care strategies that help me reset.
These 5 grounding rituals have helped me through 3 very busy summers.
Why These Habits Actually Work (Even If You’re Busy)
I used to think self-care meant long bubble baths or hours of alone time—beautiful ideas, but not always realistic. Now, I’m learning that wellness doesn’t have to be extravagant to be effective. It’s the little habits that stack up, gently reminding me to come back to myself.
What I love about these simple summer habits is that they fit into my life without needing to rearrange everything. A glass of lemon water takes two minutes. A walk doesn’t have to be long to reset my energy. Even saying “no” once a week can open up hours of peace. These tiny shifts add up, and I feel it in my body, my mood, and even how I show up for the people I love.
Maybe that’s the quiet magic of summer wellness—it meets you right where you are. No need to do more. Just be present, intentional, and kind to yourself.

Each evening, step outside—just for a minute or two. Let the sunset, the breeze, or the fading light remind you that you made it through the day. Breathe in. Let it go. You don’t need to journal or light candles unless you want to. Just be there for the closing of the day. This tiny pause has become one of my favorite moments—and it costs nothing.
What are the 4 C’s of self-care?
While I don’t always follow formal frameworks, I love the idea behind the “4 C’s of Self-Care”: Connection, Competence, Clarity, and Calm. And funny enough, these summer habits hit on all of them.
